Free LUTs for Panasonic Lumix GH5 & GH6

Color grading can completely transform the look of your video, but unless you’ve spent years inside a coloring house, you may not have the technical know-how to achieve the desired look. The right LUT can help turbocharge this. LUTs are the quickest way to grade your footage once you’ve color corrected. It's important to note that if your footage doesn’t match from shot to shot, is not properly exposed, or is poorly color corrected, that applying a LUT will not work the way you hoped it would.

First things first, what does LUT mean?

LUT (known as Lookup Table) is a term used to describe a predetermined array of numbers that provide a shortcut for a specific computation. In the context of color grading, a LUT transforms color input values (camera) to your desired output values (final footage).

Why use LUTs on footage?

  • Set a predetermined look for a specific visual feeling
  • Increase the speed at which you can color grade
  • Use as a reference point to develop your unique style

We built these LUTs as we were working on a few different projects, so the colors were developed for specific scenes. They were primarily added onto footage from the either the Panasonic Lumix GH5, GH5s or the GH6, so if you’re using Panasonic's v-log color science, the LUTs shouldn’t need much tweaking. When added onto other Log curves (F-LOG, C-Log, S-Log, etc.), you may find that you’ll need to turn down the intensity of the LUT, or tweak some other settings, to get it sitting just right. Just experiment with them yourself and see what looks you can get.

What makes these cinematic LUTs unique however is their ability to apply complex color grades and accurately imitate all the subtle nuances and color shifts of major Hollywood films as created by professional colorists.

"Vereda" LUT by Rocket House Pictures

For the record, I think my favorite LUT from this pack, and one that I think I’ll find myself using quite often as a base-LUT, is called “Vereda”. In my opinion, it has just enough of that classic film look with enough of a soft roll-off for other scenarios.
